Thinking of adopting? Would you ever consider using unused embryos left over from in vitro fertilization and growing a baby in your own body that was not yours?

Apparently some frozen embryos are being used for this exact purpose. Since adoption can be costly and time-consuming, many people are turning to unused embryos to grow their own children what are not biological in their wombs. This controversial topic has been covered by kptv.com and has had many people talking.

I personally find this story uplifting, I think it is wonderful to see that individuals can build families in so many unique ways. I do however wonder what happens after the child is born. Does the mother have to adopt the child that is not legally hers?

What do you think?

<![CDATA[Parents Complain About in Flight Movie and Plane Gets Diverted!]]>Tue, 09 Apr 2013 14:34:59 GMThttp://lil-sugar.ca/news/parents-complain-about-in-flight-movie-and-plane-gets-diverted
Photo: Kozzi.com

Imagine this, you are taking a flight with 2 small children and on top of the endless attempts at diverting their attention....
A movie begins...
Fist thought? Finally, some peace and quiet right?

WRONG! According to one family, upon the start of the Movie 'Alex Cross' (Rated PG13) they noticed violent scenes right away.

"Alarmed by the opening scenes, we asked two flight attendants if they could turn off the monitor; both claimed it was not possible," they said. (News.com.auTo their defence, how can you shelter a child from seeing something you deem inappropriate from numerous drop-down screens? And why would an airline play movies that had violence knowing children were on board?

The United Airlines flight from Denver to Baltimore had Alex Cross playing on drop-down screens throughout the planes, and the parents were concerned their sons, aged four and eight, were too young for the content, The Atlantic reports.

Shortly after, the flight landed without incident and the customers were removed from the aircraft.

It is hard to shelter your children from the harsh reality of what we call society, but on this note I sincerely hope that we can at least have the choice to opt out of situations until we feel our children are ready to accept them. This situation seems as though the airline has forced the graphic content onto this poor family without giving them a choice but to accept what was playing on screen. I know most of you would say, just place tape over the monitors directly above the children and distract them but seriously, how can you do that when the movie is playing everywhere around them....on a LONG flight?

What do you think? Is this family going too far?
<![CDATA[Why Didn't I Think of That?]]>Wed, 20 Mar 2013 17:20:10 GMThttp://lil-sugar.ca/news/why-didnt-i-think-of-thatOnce and a while you come across those moments when you think: Why didn't I think of that!

This is one of those moments for me. A Southland high school senior Jake Davidson asked model Kate Upton to be his prom date through YouTube and she is actually considering the proposition!! Now, once again...why didn't I think of that?

Who knows, maybe Lenny Kravitz would have actually said yes. Fast-forward a million years and here I am still wishing I could go to Prom with my love!!

Ahhh anyone can dream can't they?

Take a look at this adorable video:
@KateUpton you are the most beautiful woman in the world! Please do me the great honor of going to prom with me! (@JakeDavidson23)

If you could take any celebrity to prom, who would it be?

Photo: Twitter via yahoo.com

Four-year-old Marcella Marino, a Birtish girl who fashioned her long blonde hair just like the pop-star Lady gaga into a giant bow, has been banned from wearing it in her elementary school class picture. Apparently, the school handbook states that it has a no-ribbon rule, therefore a hairstyle that resembles a ribbon is not permitted. My question is....what is this world coming to? When ribbons, and bows are not allowed, but bullying and rudeness is. Hummmm kind of makes you think twice eh? Besides, the hair is shaped as a bow, it isn't actually a 'bow' per-say.

Do you see any ribbons here?

<![CDATA[Mother Charged with Tattooing Her 11 Year Old Child!]]>Wed, 10 Oct 2012 17:47:41 GMThttp://lil-sugar.ca/news/mother-charged-with-tattooing-her-11-year-old-child

A North Carolina mom has been charged with tattooing a minor -which is illegal in the state. She used her own tools to tattoo her 11-year-old. When her daughter asked for a tattoo, Odessa Clay inked a small heart near the girl’s right shoulder. Talk about going to extremes!

She says that she believed it was 'permissible' with a parent’s permission, just like ear piercings. Odessa also says that her daughter did not experience any pain because she numbed her arm for the process.

P.S this is not the first time a parent has been charged for this. Check out what this mother did to her 10 year old! Parenting.com

I have no words....what do you think? Should it be permissible to tattoo a child under the age of 18 with a parents consent?

<![CDATA[Transgendered Father Gets the Boot From La Leche League ]]>Thu, 23 Aug 2012 12:26:24 GMThttp://lil-sugar.ca/news/transgendered-father-gets-the-boot-from-la-leche-league

Trevor MacDonald is a Transgender father who has decided breastfeed his child. Recently he has been making headlines because of his letter that was denied to become a La Leche League leader. The 18 year old policy states that a leader must be a mother who breastfeeds rather than a father. The question is whether LLLC should change its policies after years to accommodate todays changing society and the families in it.

"Since an LLLC leader is a mother who breastfed a baby, a man cannot become an LLLC leader."

Born a woman, he has been taking hormone treatments and has had chest surgery to make him more masculine in appearance 4 years ago. When deciding to birth a child he stopped treatments completely. Trevor writes a blog called The Milk Junkies and is an active member of the transgender community. What's interesting is that he gives credit to LLLC for assistance in helping him nurse his child when he had some complications.

What do you think? Should a transgender person have the same opportunity to nurse his/her child in public and become a LLLC leader, or is Trevor MacDonald taking this issue to far?
